The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) strongly condemns today’s attack by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on residential neighbourhoods in the city of Geneina in West Darfur. The SAF’s shelling of the area using tanks and heavily artillery led to the deaths of 20 civilians and left dozens more injured.
The attack also resulted in extensive damage to public facilities, including the Al-Nassim Mosque located in the heart of the city.
Such attacks on sacred places of worship are particularly distressing and highlight the disregard of the SAF and its extremist backers from the former regime of dictator Omar al-Bashir for human rights and international law.
The RSF is committed to protecting the rights and safety of the people of Sudan. We stand with the people of Geneina at this challenging time.
We call on the international community to condemn these actions and to support our efforts to restore peace and security in Sudan.
